We all hate narcissism a lot. We think it is a bad feature which people can have. Ironically, narcissists do not know that they are a narcissist. They think that they are natural, but others envy him. We can find this person everywhere around us. He can be one of our friends, fathers ,relatives ,bosses,employees...etc.No one likes the narcissus, but what if I were narcissus? How can I know? Does it mean that I am a bad person? How do others look at me if I were narcissus? How can the community affect narcissism? What is the relationship between narcissism and social media?
Why is it called Narcissism ?
There is a story behind this name. It is an old Greek myth. There was a man possessing such beauty that it can seduce and fascinate anyone. His beauty was so enticing that men and woman can sacrifice their souls as an oblation just to satisfy this beauty, however he never accepted any of them. He was like an arrogant peafowl. This man was called Narcissus. One day, while Narcissus was walking through the forest, he met Echo (nymph of the forest); she fell in love with him. She confesses her love for him and tried to embrace him. He did not only refused her but he also stepped away from her. Consequently, Nemesis (goddess of punishment) got angry because of that; Nemesis wanted to punish him. One day, while he was walking along the forest, he got thirsty. He went to drink from a pool. Out of sudden, He saw his reflection on the water. His beauty seduced him. He fell in love with himself and could not move away from his reflection. He continued looking at himself. His love burnt him inside out. He turned into a beautiful flower called Narcissus.
How do you know if you are narcissist?
As we said above, the narcissists do not realize that there is a problem with them,but others are jealous .Narcissistic personality disorder is considered mental condition. First,narcissists think that he is extremely better than others . Moreover, they believe that you need to be very special to understand them,you would never be like them whatever you did ,and you are not allowed to cross the line with them .They exaggerate their achievements and abilities thinking that they are difficult to accomplish.They live in their fantasy world.Second, they always need to be the star of the party.Thus, their arrogance feeds on others'admiration and praise.If anyone tried to steal others' attraction from them , they would do anything to get it back .Third,narcissists do not care or worry about others'feeling .They treat them as objects without heart ,so they are sometimes being very harsh.They believe that others envy them because they are very special.Finally,The narcissist thinks that the world is around them .
How do others look at narcissist ?
We do not recognize the narcissists at the beginning.We like them thinking they are entertaining and have self-confidence.They have magnificent potential to give the first impression.They can impress you easily.Therefore,Most of people love them at the beginning.On the other hand,when you know them well,you will recognize all their bad characteristics,and you may hate them because their selfish behaviors.You must be aware that they are not evil ,but they have mental condition .Do not hate them ,get angry or try to punish them .There are some approaches to handle them.You can find them here .

The Narcissist In Relationships.
Narcissists
are considered excellent at short -term relationships ,but they are
not that good at long term relationships .I think the reasons are
quite clear.The partner finds them attractive,high confident and
impressive.Furthermore, They are sexy and have groomed appearance
because they care and worry about their appearance a lot. According
to studies ,It is rare for narcissist to get rejection from the
opposite sex .Thus,all these features qualify them to be good at
short term relationship. Despite all these good characteristics,they
face many problem with long-term relationships .Can you live with
someone who does not care about anyone except himself?The partner
will recognize the others characteristics over time;the partner will
notice that he is with selfish ,arrogant ,irresponsible and
intolerant person.
Social Media And Narcissists
Social
media such as Facebook ,Tweeter ,Instagram ,and other platforms is
considered fertile environment for them to satisfy their arrogance
.As we said above, they always need dose of admiration and praise
.Therefore, Social media give them chance to share their
photos,achievements or stories,and allow them to see people's
comments which are full of praise and admiration in most cases.
According to studies,The people who used Facebook and Instagram more
than Twitter have higher level of narcissism because Twitter depends
more on tweets than visual items. Social media feeds the narcissists'
superiority complexes.
Community and Narcissists
Do
you know that you can create a narcissist person? You do that when you
exaggerate praising your son thinking that you make him trust
himself and reinforce his self-confidence. Thus,community sometimes
cause this mental condition .For example ,After World War ii
,Germany was divided into two parts.The first part was ruled by
United States ,Britain and French(capitalism system).The second part was ruled by Union Soviet (communism system) .Researchers found that
people,who lived under capitalism, had higher level of narcissism
more than people who lived under communism .That proves how community
can effect narcissism.
To sum up ,we have to understand that the narcissists are not evil ,but they are suffering from mental condition.when you deal with them ,do not take it personally.They always need attraction ,admiration and praise.They find social media as the best environment for them because it provides them with all of these .The community affects them easily and increases the level of narcissism.In conclusion,They are human after all.
